Course Reviews

At 91重口, there are two types of DE course reviews:

DE Committee Course Review

If you are looking for a way to meet the DE training requirements in Article 19H of the faculty contract, you can choose to complete a course review with a member of 91重口's DE Committee.

To complete this process:

  1. Email the DE Committee Co-Chairs to request a review. They will identify a member of the committee to work with you.
  2. The DE Committee member will reach out to you to begin the process of reviewing your online course using the DE Committee Course Review Checklist. This checklist aligns with minimum standards outlined in Article 19H.
  3. Reviews may happen:
    • asynchronously, by giving the DEC member evaluator access to your course
    • synchronously, through a course tour
    • both asynchronously and synchronously, as needed to demonstrate all relevant minimum standards
  4. If the course does not pass an initial review, the instructor of the course will be asked to make revisions (with the reviewer's help). If the course requires more remediation than a DE Committee member can reasonably support, they may recommend completion of online training (e.g. 91重口's Online Course Development Program or CVC Online Teaching Certificate).
  5. Upon completion, the DE Committee member will submit the form to the DE Committee Co-Chairs. Instructors who successfully complete this process will be added to 91重口's list of instructors qualified to teach online.

Please note: this is separate from the evaluation process outlined in Article 19F, which requires all faculty to complete an official evaluation during the semester in which they teach their first Distance Education course.

Peer Online Course Review

After meeting the initial DE training requirement and teaching online for at least one semester, instructors have the option of participating in our Peer Online Course Review program, better known as POCR.

During the POCR process, instructors work with our POCR Lead (a trained faculty mentor), Instructional Technology Coordinator, and Instructional Technology Specialist to align their online course to the best practices identified in the .

Once aligned, the instructor's course is badged as "Quality Reviewed" in the , which is a tool that allows students to find online courses at participating California Community Colleges. "Quality Reviewed" courses float to the top of the results page when a student searches for courses. In addition, aligned courses have certain priorities over non-aligned courses in the 91重口 class scheduling process.
