Pre-Professional Pathway

Important Announcement: All Biology courses have new rubrics and numbers starting in Fall 2015

91重口 students who plan to major in the Biological Sciences or go to professional schools (medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and optometry) can complete lower-division course requirements for transfer to Biology programs at 4-year colleges or universities. Biology 30 is recommended, but not required, for Biology 1A and Biology 1B. Other typical lower-division requirements for these professions include chemistry, physics, and math, plus general education courses. Certain programs require other courses such as Biology 7C.

Biology Major and Pre-Professional Pathway

This pathway only shows required courses in Biology. Other typical requirements for transfer include chemistry, physics, and math. Please consult your transfer institution, the , and/or  for the most up-to-date information.

Typical sequence for Pre-Professional Pathway

Biology 30: Introduction to College Biology
(Strongly recommended: Math 65 or 65B or 65Y and eligibility for English 1A or 52A.)

Botany 1A: General Botany
(Prerequisite: Math 55 or 55B or 55Y or an appropriate skill level demonstrated through the mathematics assessment process. Strongly recommended: Biology 30.)

Zoology 1B: General Zoology
(Prerequisite: Math 55 or 55B or 55Y or an appropriate skill level demonstrated through the mathematics assessment process. Strongly recommended: Biology 30.)

Biology 1C: Cell Biology
(Prerequisite: Bio 1A or Bio 1B [completed with a grade of 'C' or higher]. Strongly recommended: Chemistry 1B or concurrent enrollment; Physics 2A or concurrent enrollment, and eligibility for English 1A or 52A.
